Sep 22, 2020· Grinding surface quality and residual stress of Al 2 O 3 and ZrO 2 ceramics were investigated after grinding under pre-compressive stress. The damage induced by abrasive grinding on the Al 2 O 3 and ZrO 2 ceramics surface was decreased using a pre-compressive stress grinding method. Pre-compressive stress on ceramics was applied by a custom-made compressive stress loader before abrasive grinding.

Mechanical finishing of the surface is applied in calenders by means of abrasive paper, brushes or metallic needles. Thereby the fabric is pulled between rotating cylinders, which are equipped with the abrasive surface. With such mechanical surface treatment the fabric is partially disoriented by isolating individual fibers out of the weave in order to produce a hairy surface.
